Nyar Num Productions presents the World Premiere of BEAUTY FOR ASHES by published poet, screen and playwright Peres Owino, opening November 7th through the 23rd, 2008 atSTAGE 52 in West Los Angeles.

ABOUT THE PLAY

BEAUTY FOR ASHES is a dramedy about defining oneself, not by the ghosts that steal away from our past to terrorize our present, but by listening to that still small voice in our head.
Based on true events and written with uncanny wit and brutal honesty, this work by Ms. Owino dares each of us to take a long honest look at what we see, hear, think and feel about ourselves and dare to ask "who am I, really?"
This very personal play revolves around Peres, a 30-something strong, independent woman whose outward composure hides a brutal secret desperate to be set free, and the one night in her bathroom that changed her life.
This is the night the still small voice in her mind, takes her on a journey into the loves, dreams and crushing losses of an African Witchdoctor, a Young Bride and the transformation of the perception of the Black Woman. But it is not until Peres comes face to face with her own trauma that she realizes that running away from the past could cost her life.

BEAUTY FOR ASHES climatic conclusion takes us on a rollercoaster of pain, confusion, joy, fear, surrender, love and ultimately, truth.

Directed by LA Ovation and NAACP Image Award Nominee, Ayana Cahrr, starring LA Ovation Award Nominee Peres Owino with a special appearance by Liliana Cattaneo, San Diego Dance Alliance Tony Award winner and set and scenic design by LA Ovation Award winner Victoria Bellocq.
BEAUTY FOR ASHES opens November 7th through the 23rd, with Friday, Saturday and Sunday shows at 7:30pm. Ticket prices are $20 with 10 discounted tickets available for Sunday shows. Running time is 75 minutes. Lot parking is available.
